Exhibiting and Reflecting Upon Professional Competency
Teacher candidates in the William & Mary teacher preparation program create electronic portfolios as a means of reflecting upon and demonstrating their professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions. The intended audiences of the electronic teaching portfolio include: (1) School of Education faculty, who use the portfolios for student and program evaluation; (2) administrators in schools and school districts, who use the portfolios, in part, for assessing the preparedness of potential hires; and (3) teacher candidates themselves, who use the portfolios as a means of self-reflection and self-directed growth.
Program faculty provide guidance to teacher candidates in the preparation of and expectations for the electronic teaching portfolio. Teacher candidates also use two important resources as references as they conceptualize, design, construct, and refine their portfolios over the course of the program. These resources are:
